Activity Corner
Babies & Tiny Todds
We have continued to explore our space topic this week by using shaped to create rockets! We used glue to stick the shapes on the card and enjoyed singing "zoom zoom zoom" while we created our rockets. In our floor tray we have had the mega blocks where we have been building towers and then knocking them back down onto the floor, this is a great activity to develop the children's hand eye coordination skills. During group time we have been learning where our eyes, nose, ears and mouth are, the children were very proud of themselves when they found them!
Little Learners
Little Learners are really enjoying the space topic, we went on our rockets(bikes) in the garden and flew to the moon, when we landed back to earth we used chalks to draw the planets that we had seen on our journey. Our art and craft activity has been creating shape rockets by using coloured shapes to stick onto our card, we spoke about the different shapes and colours that we could see. We had free choice in the water tray and the children have wanted the wooden spoons, coloured blocks and the treading beads. Our messy activity has been moon dust! Moon dust is flour, black powder paint and glitter, the children used their hands to explore the soft texture and decided to use some of the playdough cutting tools to create marks in the dust.
Pre School
This week in pre school we have been on a space walk in the garden, we spoke about how we need to get to space and what it will be like once we get there. We then used our colourful chalks to draw planets on to the concrete. Our water tray has been filled up with water, baby oil and glitter, the oil causes the glitter to form around the oil and looks like planets. The children really enjoyed the feel of the oil on their hands and arms. We have been really good with naming our shapes during our space rocket activity, we looked at how many sides they had and also spoke about 2D and 3D shapes. The moon dust has been very popular this week with the children using their hands and fingers to create marks and practice their letter forming.
Cooking
Our cooking activity this week has been rocket fruit kebabs. Our younger children carefully selected the fruit that they wanted to use and put them onto their sticks and our younger children cut up their selected fruit for their kebabs.
Mobile Farm
We are very excited to let you all know that we will be having a visit from Longdown Dairy Farm at the end of May! As this falls in May half term we will be inviting all children to come in and visit with their parents/carers. Letters will be sent out once the date has been confirmed.
Sun Hats
Now that the weather is warming up we will be asking for sun hats to be provided daily.
Once the UV factor reaches 3 we are required to apply sun cream to all children. We use ‘Boots Soltan Once. Kids 3 Hour Water Play’, if your child requires a different sun cream, this will need to be provided by parents/carers.
